A new library recently opened in Owings Mills, and I just had to run and check it out since reading is my favorite thing to do. While roaming the aisles and looking at all the new books, I came across The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch. I’ve heard of this book multiple times and I finally decided to pick it up. Randy Pausch was a professor at Carnegie Mellon who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and this book is about his journey through life, and his message to his wife and three small children after he’s gone. It might sound like a downer, since it’s kind of like his memoir but I am forever grateful that I saw it and picked it up. In a week and 206 pages later, I cried, I laughed, I learned, I appreciated and I lived more. I’ve read a lot of books, and this is the first time that I’ve wished that I could thank the author for sharing his life lessons, experiences, hardships, and messages for his children. He doesn’t talk about religion, or how you should live your life, but he tells you what worked for him, and how to stop taking your life for granted, and to appreciate the small things. If you’re not big on reading, here’s a link to his inspiring lecture via youtube.
